Apple Watch Ultra Review: Worth It Or Nah?

Saturday: The First Day of Testing:

On Saturday morning, I woke up with the Apple Watch Ultra fully charged at 100% battery. I then drove to my ultimate Frisbee practice in New York. Many people don’t realize how many calories you burn during a three-hour practice, but the numbers speak for themselves.

After finishing practice, I drove home and went about the rest of my day. By the time I went to sleep, the watch had about 69% battery remaining.

Sunday: Another Day of Testing:

I slept with the watch on to track my sleep and woke up on Sunday morning with 60% battery. I drove back into New York City for another ultimate Frisbee practice.

This session was even hotter, with the sun baking down more intensely. After three more hours and 2,000 calories burned, practice ended. I drove home, continued with my day, and once again slept with the watch on for sleep tracking.

Monday: The Final Test:

By Monday morning, I drove to the studio with the watch still running. At 11 AM, the battery level was at 20%.

This meant the watch had lasted two full days and two nights, heading into the third day. This was far better battery performance than I had ever seen from any other Apple Watch.

The Apple Watch Ultra: A New Era:

Apple had been expected to launch a more rugged version of the Apple Watch, and many assumed it would be called the Apple Watch Pro. However, the name chosen was the Apple Watch Ultra. Given Apple’s tendency to use the term “Pro” for their high-end devices.

Such as the iPhone Pro, MacBook Pro, and AirPods Pro, calling it the Watch Pro would have made sense. Nevertheless, the Apple Watch Ultra is designed for a specific audience—adventurers, athletes, and extreme users.

Key Features of the Apple Watch Ultra:

The Apple Watch Ultra stands out from the standard models with three main enhancements: ruggedness, features, and battery life.

  • Ruggedness: The watch is significantly larger at 49mm and built with a titanium case and ceramic back. The flat sapphire crystal display is designed to resist corner impacts. The larger buttons and digital crown make it easier to operate, even with gloves.

  • Battery Life: The larger size allows for a bigger battery, significantly extending the battery life compared to other Apple Watches.

  • Advanced Features: It includes dual-frequency GPS for better accuracy, WR-100 water resistance for up to 100 meters, an extra speaker and microphone for improved audio quality, and a new action button for quick access to functions like workouts and navigation

Is the Apple Watch Ultra Right for You?

This watch is designed for extreme users, such as scuba divers, marathon runners, and serious hikers. Apple has integrated features like a dive app, advanced GPS navigation, and a loud emergency siren to cater to these needs.

While it offers superior performance, the bulkiness and rugged design may not appeal to everyday users who prefer a more subtle smartwatch.

Conclusion:

The Apple Watch Ultra is undoubtedly the best Apple Watch ever made. It has the longest battery life, the brightest display, and the most durable build.

While its design may not be for everyone, those who need a high-performance, adventure-ready smartwatch will find it an excellent choice.

If you know what you're getting into, the Apple Watch Ultra is an impressive and powerful device that delivers on its promises.
